Program Mission Preparing qualified competencies among social work specialists who are scientifically and professionally trained, capable of understanding social phenomena and problems, addressing them effectively, and participating in scientific research to support practice and enrich knowledge. This is achieved through high-quality training and academic programs, enabling graduates to compete in the labor market and meet societal needs. Program Objectives Preparing and qualifying students theoretically and scientifically in the fields of sociology and social work. Equipping students with scientific research skills to study social phenomena and problems and apply them in serving society. Training students theoretically and practically in the skills needed to handle social problems and work toward solutions. Developing students’ ability for continuous self-learning to keep pace with scientific advancement. Instilling social values, professional responsibilities, and ethics in students. Enabling students to design research programs in sociology and social work. Equipping students with life skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, effective communication, and teamwork. Learning Outcomes First: Knowledge and Understanding Skills Graduates will be able to: Distinguish between the branches and fields of sociology and social work. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of theories and methodologies in sociology and social work. Interpret the interactive relationship between social and behavioral sciences and sociology and social work. Explain the relationship of sociology and social work to other sciences. Second: Cognitive (Mental) Skills Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to: Analyze social phenomena and propose appropriate solutions. Classify social cases for target populations. Program Overview The Department of Sociology and Social Work was established within the academic programs in the 2016–2017 academic year. The Sociology and Social Work program is an important academic program, closely connected to human life and its main activities. The department awards a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Social Work and offers a unique program in Yemen combining both disciplines, aligned with societal needs. The program is designed according to the latest international standards and provides students with numerous employment opportunities. The need for such programs is increasing at both local and international levels due to the importance of graduates in the local and regional labor markets. This motivated the university to establish the program to achieve its goals and prepare specialized national cadres, as the field plays a key role in meeting the social development needs of educational, social, and health institutions in Yemen.
