Institut Pendidikan Indonesia (IPI) Garut is a developing higher education institution situated in the mountainous region of West Java, Indonesia. Established in 1983 under the name Garut School of Teacher Training and Pedagogy (STKIP Garut), the institution was originally founded with a strong commitment to preparing professional educators for both regional and national needs. Over time, IPI Garut has continuously strengthened its institutional capacity, expanded its academic scope, and enhanced its organizational structure. A major milestone was reached in 2017 when it officially transformed into an institute, marking a new phase of institutional growth. This transition reflected its determination to preserve its legacy in teacher education while gradually broadening its academic orientation toward a more multidisciplinary profile.

At present, IPI Garut remains widely recognized as a trusted center for teacher preparation. Its academic programs in language education, science education, social sciences, and elementary education demonstrate a consistent dedication to producing competent, ethical, and reflective educators. Simultaneously, the institution has begun to diversify its academic portfolio through the establishment of the Information Systems program, its first program outside the education discipline. This strategic move represents the institution’s response to societal transformation, technological development, and the increasing demands of the global labor market. Although education-based programs still dominate its academic structure, IPI Garut is steadily laying the groundwork for broader multidisciplinary expansion in the future.

IPI Garut currently offers ten undergraduate programs, one professional program, and three postgraduate programs. Its undergraduate programs are organized under two faculties. The Faculty of Social Science, Language, and Literature Education provides programs in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Pancasila and Civic Education, English Language Education, Elementary School Teacher Education, and Social Science Education. These programs integrate pedagogical theory, cultural understanding, and practical teaching experience to ensure graduates are well equipped to serve as transformative educators. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology manages undergraduate programs in Mathematics Education, Biology Education, Information Technology Education, Physics Education, and Information Systems. The inclusion of Information Systems highlights IPI Garut’s growing emphasis on technological competence, digital literacy, and the integration of applied sciences within its educational mission.

Beyond undergraduate education, IPI Garut also operates the Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG), a nationally recognized program that provides structured and rigorous preparation for teacher certification. This program strengthens graduates’ pedagogical, personal, social, and professional competencies, enabling them to perform effectively in complex and diverse classroom contexts. At the postgraduate level, the School of Postgraduate Studies offers master’s programs in Educational Technology, Indonesian Language and Literature Education, and Mathematics Education.
