Bachelor of Dental Surgery

The Bachelor of Dental Education (or Bachelor of Dentistry – Pre-Clinical Program) is a higher education program designed to prepare future dentists to understand and master dental sciences as well as the clinical skills required to become competent oral healthcare professionals. This program typically lasts around 5–6 years, depending on the curriculum and education system in each country. During their studies, students not only learn theoretical aspects of dental medicine but also gain practical experience through rotations in various dental clinics and hospitals. In the early stage, students study the fundamental sciences of dentistry, including dental anatomy, oral physiology, dental materials, and oral pathology. This phase aims to build a strong foundation of knowledge before entering the clinical stage. In addition, students are taught dental ethics, medical communication, and patient management, which are essential aspects of daily dental practice. After completing the pre-clinical stage, students proceed to the clinical phase, where they are directly involved in patient care under the supervision of experienced dentists. This provides an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life situations, develop diagnostic skills, and learn to make appropriate clinical decisions. After graduation, they are usually required to undergo an internship before taking certification exams to obtain a license to practice as a dentist. The program not only emphasizes technical dental competencies but also focuses on the development of soft skills such as empathy, teamwork, and effective communication with patients and their families. Graduates of this program are expected to become not only clinically competent dentists but also compassionate professionals with high integrity in carrying out their duties.
